the Shellfish Monitoring project

The Shellfish Monitoring Project was a joint initiative of the Canadian aquaculture industry through the Canadian Aquaculture Industry Alliance and the federal agencies which deliver the Canadian Shellfish Sanitation Program (CSSP).  The primary focuses of this project were to facilitate the development of farm based quality assurance programs and to increase the industry involvement in regulatory monitoring programs.

Kingzett Professional Services Ltd. (now Blue Revolution Consulting Group) led the technical team in project delivery, focusing on:

  1. Development of farm based HACCP programs for shellfish farmers, and;

  2. Development of methodologies that involve shellfish aquaculture stakeholders in water quality monitoring relating to growing area classification.

Additional components of this project included:

  • Research into comparative commercial species uptake and depuration of marine biotoxins;

  • The development of a shellfish quality assurance information resource for the Canadian aquaculture industry;

  • Research into improving communications methodologies between regulatory and industrial sectors within the Canadian shellfish aquaculture industry.
